HOW TO MAKE INDIA "THE BIRD OF GOLD" AGAIN
By S.P. Attri (USA)
1. Commenting on my essay titled "CAN INDIA BECOME THE
"BIRD OF GOLD" ONCE
AGAIN? ,"writes Shri XXX:
attrijee
This is an excellent analysis.. but do u also account for the
brain
drain, the continuous floods, droughts, earthquakes etc., the
corrupt
politicians, pakistan etc etc to dessimate your theory.
India has the potential to make it as the 'bird of gold' as u put
it
but i dont think this potential is being tapped at all.
So this remains a very idealistic way of looking at things.
My Take:
1. Shri XXX:
Thank you for your comments.
2. No Shri XXX, I did not forget the syllabus of items that you
have listed. In
fact in my write-up, I specifically mentioned the "
Juggernaut Of
Politico-Economic Bottle-Necks," these bottle-necks encompass
the problems
that you have cited. My theory stamps these out. More later.
3. A Monstrosity of the "Politics Of Poverty" has been
imposed upon India.
Like the DHOL-KA-POL (the hollow-interior of the drum), this
monostrosity is
invisible, but its tragic consequences are not. India is Not poor
but has
been made poor, and is being held in poverty by the forces of
socialism. THE
FAT-HEADS OF SOCIALISM, have dominated the economic scene of India
during the
last several decades, they have no understanding of life's laws,
or how the
human beings function, instead of working with human nature, they
are working
against it, and getting no where. It is mind-boggling how these
DIZZY-DEANS
have managed to pull wool over the eyes of the Hindu for this
long.
It is not possible to defy the laws of nature or of human life.
The Fat-Heads
have absolutely no chance of winning against these powerful
forces, they
vainly keep beating their heads against these forces, but the
results are
never in doubt, the market forces always humiliate the Fat-Heads.
4. The components of Politics Of Poverty (Phoney-Liberalism) are
the
Composite Culture, the Minority-Appeasement, the Vote-Bank
Politics, and on
top of it all "The Monster Of Socialism".
Gandhi and Nehru, the two block-head economists of India, and the
original
authors of this politics of poverty of modern India, gave their
gift of
socialism to us Hindus as their great contribution, but the
concequences of
this gift are tragically insane. The utter devastation all across
India, is
visible to everybody who cares to see, in houses, in shops, on
roads, in fact
all across the length and breadth of India. The Indian houses have
not been
painted in the last ten years, Indian shops have never been
painted/re-painted ever. Indian roads are not fit to be driven
over even by
bicycles or scooters (let alone by cars, buses, or trucks),
rest-rooms along
Indian roads are non-existent, the rest-rooms in rail-road
stations and
aboard the trains, stink in your nostrills, and so on and on. Can
there be a
bigger proof of the failure of socialism? Our enemy of Socialism,
sleeps
right inside our house, and we are not even bothered. This enemy
has been
languishing inside India for decades, while India crumbles and
dies from its
socialist wounds. Socialism of India has become the National
Disgrace Of
India.
Ninety-Eight percent of Indian Retail Shops measure approximately
8 ft x 8 ft
x 8 ft dimensions, and the quality of goods in them are not fit to
be
exported to any place in the world, Indian people buy those goods
because
they have to, because they have no other choice (the Indian People
are always
craving foreign goods), even these shoddy goods are always in
short supply.
Shopping Centers, Malls, and Supermarket Stores do not exist in
India.
Twentieth Century Retailing has completely escaped India. The
socialism of
Gandhi and Nehru, has totally destroyed not only the Capital
Structure of
India, but also the Creative Talents of the Great Mind of the
Hindu.
5. There is a shortage of everything in India. You have to wait at
least six
months to get an electric connection or a telephone connection,
and even then
you have to bribe somebody, to get on the connection. People even
tell me
that there is a shortage of cement in India and that cement is
sold in black
market. This gives me the biggest belly-laugh, because cement
should be
coming out of every Indian's ears, but tragically it is not, the
cement is
really in short supply. Does it surprise anybody why it is sold in
black
market? When there is a shortage of any commodity or service, it
will
disappear from the open market, after that only black market and
corruption
becomes the name of the game, it becomes something to lean on. The
Indians
pay bribes, not because they enjoy paying bribes (Like everybody
else in the
world, the Indians also hate to pay bribes, they are always
bitching to the
high heavens about the payment of bribes), but because they have
no other
choice.
The Indian people typically pick on names, like some official or
politician
who is corrupt. What they fail to realize is that the problem is
not some
individual, but the system within which the corrupt individual
operates. The
system which permits and promotes this corruption, is the
"system of
shortages." You guessed it, it is the system of socialism.
Socialism neither
produces the quality nor the quantity of goods. There is a joke
around that
socialism distributes poverty. Unfortunately, it is not a joke, it
is the
absolute naked truth. Like the counterfeit money, it is the:
Bad Money that drives Good Money out of the market. (Gresham's Law
).
But Gresham's Law does not apply to money alone, it applies to
nearly
every activity in which we humans are involved, it applies to our
money, to
our manners, to our morals, et cetera et cetera. In other words,
its general
form says that:
THE BAD DRIVES OUT THE GOOD
That is why we see so much corruption in our Indian System. We
Indians have
become the victims of Gresham's Law, in the rarified world of
modern
economics.
To turn the financial life of India around, we need to get rid of
this
"Bad-Money Of Socialism" from India, it is the
pestilence that has
infiltrated every step of our life, it is covering us Indians with
gloom, it
is worse than thousand other dangers. We need to say to ourselves
that:
THE ERA OF SOCIALISM IS OVER IN INDIA
6. We could have abolished the Gandhi/Nehru Nonsense (which has no
promise or
future in India) after Gandhi and Nehru were gone, if we had
wanted to but we
did not, because we have become comfortable with socialism. We
have allowed
ourselves to believe the Socialistic Non-Sense and the Big-Fat
Lies of
Job-Creation through state-owned economy. We have allowed our
stupid-socialism to linger on, even though its bitter pill has
taken us to
the edge of wretched poverty.
Like a narcotic, Socialism gives us Hindus a Phoney-Feeling of
safety and
security, gives us the assurance that we are keeping our people
employed and
preventing starvation. But the types of jobs (via public
enterprises) that
Socialism creates for us are not jobs at all, they are busy-work
activities,
since they do not contribute much to the National Product, they
cannot pay
good, and they do not pay good either, they generate lot of mis-guided
activity, and its employees are nearly always poor and un-happy.
Every one of
these employees in a socialist enterprise has voting-rights. If
the
politicians dismantle their socialist enterprises, the employees
would lose
their jobs, and the politicians would lose their votes. Since a
politician
always wants to get re-elected, it ensures the continuation of the
socialist
enterprise in India. In other words, socialism is well-protected
by the
votive power of the socialist employees.
7. As we glance at the entire economic field of India, we view the
horrors
that socialism has brought, and how it has mowed down the
enterprising spirit
of the Hindu. The network of controls and licenses, which are
always part of
any socialism, has destroyed the vitality of remaining amount of
private
enterprise that has managed to survive in India, despite the
step-motherly
treatment given to it by the Socialist Fat-Heads.
The biggest consequence of any socialist-blunder is the production
of the
lowest quality of goods in the world. But the world demands high
quality
goods, and it wants to buy them at the lowest prices. Socialist
enterprise
cannot match this formidable demand, the goods of our socialist
enterprises
cannot be sold outside India. Thus India cannot earn foreign
exchange to
purchase upgrading machinery for its obsolete plants, its
employees are
forced to use obsolete tools and they continue to produce shoddy
products,
year after year. The socialitst employees cannot be fired, so why
should they
work hard. There is no incentive for them to innovate.
8. The question is not whether socialism should be abolished but
how to
abolish it. The government cannot abolish it, for the political
reasons cited
above. Private Enterprise is in the business of making money, it
is not in
the business of helping out the sick units of socialism in India.
Many
politicians in India have realized that Public Enterprises in
India need to
be dismantled and replaced with Private Enterprises, a process
known as
Privatization, but they don't know how to go about it, without
losing their
re-electivity. At the rate at which they are going at
Privatization, a period
of 1000 years would be extremely short. In the meantime, the
hemorrhage of
the Hindu continues, because socialism is not an elegant place to
pass time,
it is corrupting and destroying the creative mind of the Hindu.
9. Do I have a way to rapidly-dismantle the socialism of India,
and rescue
the extremely-rich (THE POTENTIAL BIRD OF GOLD) country of India,
from the
wrack and ruin into which the Masters Of Stupidity have put it? Do
I have a
way to stop the De-Humanizing Process into which the Fat Heads Of
Socialism
have put the Great Mind Of us Hindus?
Yes, I certainly do. And the time for making this great break from
socialism
is RIGHT NOW. It is Absolutely the way to open the door to the
freedom and
prosperity of the Hindu IMMEDIATELY. Let me state this frankly
that:
SOME HINDUS WILL GET RICH BEFORE OTHERS WILL, BUT EVENTUALLY MOST
HINDUS (75
to 90%) WILL GET RICH.
I guarantee the results.
10. Now the Technique:
Like a giant Vacuum-Cleaner Motor, I would suck all the Public
Enterprises
into Private Enterprise immediately. The Private Outfit/Outfits
would
immediately take over the buildings, plant, equipment, and the
employees of
the Socialist Enterprises of India. From now on all employees of
the previous
socialist outfits, would be the employees of the Private Outfit,
and would be
working under the control and rules of the Private Enterprise. The
Private
Outfit would immediately start them on a RE-TRAINING PROGRAM, give
them a
chance to improve their skills, produce goods for the Private
Outfit, for
sale in the open competitive market, and contribute to the
productivity of
the Private Outfit, and keep their jobs.
Question: Why would the Private Outfit agree to take over the
Previous
Socialist Employees, spend their effort and huge amount of their
own money
for re-training these socialist employees? What is in it for the
Private
Outfits, why would they do it?
The answer is: Because we (the entire nation, the entire Hindu
Parivar) would
make it worth their while to do so, because we would give them
(that is to
the Private Outfits) tax breaks, and financial subsidies, for this
undertaking. Because WE ARE NOT THROWING ANY OF OUR HINDU BROTHERS
OUT ON THE
ROAD, and making them starve, we wouldn't have to confront the
political
problem that scares the daylight out of so many Indian
Politicians, we have
completely solved the political problem, for every body. We want
to re-train
the socialist employees and make them able to earn their livlihood
by
diligent and honest ways, and because we want the Private Outfit
to do their
part in our great national effort, and because we make it
profitable for the
Private Outfit to do so.
11. Majority (better than 75%, perhaps as high as 95 %) of the
Ex-employees
of the socialist outfit are Re-Trainable, they would gladly
re-train
themselves because the Private Outfit is paying for their
training, while
working in the Private Enterprise, they would soon learn the
nitty-gritty of
competitive life in the world, the world that is working with the
cutting-edge tools, they would understand that they are competing
in the open
market, not only of India, but of the whole world, that there is
no place to
hide, they just have to be creative and productive, inorder to
keep their
jobs.
This arrangement gives them as much security as is reasonably
possible, in
the global market place of today. Even Japan which is famous for
giving
security to its employees in the Private Outfit, does not give
them as much
security, as we are offering them through our transformation
program.
Thus everybody in India wins in the transformation-program that I
am
proposing. In other words, it is a good thing for everybody in the
politico-economic process of India.
12. What would happen after this transformation gets going in
India?
Words are inadequate to describe the fabulous results, and the
kind of
efficiency gains that would ensue from this privatisation, the
gains are not
going to be mild either. They are going to be more than strikingly
attractive. They are going to be of an order of magnitude that
would stagger
and astound the imagination of most Indians. The supply of goods
and their
quality would not be just a fillip to the demand, there would be a
proliferation of goods (world-class goods) of all types. With the
release in
the creative talents of the Hindu, the GDP Growth Rate shall not
be 1 to 2 %
only, it shall be more likely 8, 10, 12, 15 % or better, with
strength in all
sectors and strong exports all across. We shall be manufacturing
World-Class
goods right inside the great land of India and very very soon.
In whichever area, there is a demand, some Hindu Enterpreneur will
come
forward to fill in this demand, this is how the Free Market System
works. The
Free Market System of the Hindu, would rapidly acquire the tools,
the funds,
and the people who have the skills to meet these needs (wherever
in the world
these talents may be available), the Hindu Enterpreneurs will stay
on top of
the technology of the world, they are Not going to play the
RUNNERS-UP game).
13. People tell me that India is a Poor Country, it does not have
the kind of
moneys to do the kind of things that I am proposing, and that
there is too
much corruption in India. Is there any validity to these
arguments?
None at all.
This is the kind of Negative Thinking that keeps many people from
getting
started. The truth is that all these Impressions are
Totally-False, Totally
Self-Defeating. There is no shortage of money if you know how to
raise it,
and corruption can be controlled and even smashed, if right
methods are used.
I list one case here, as a hypothetical example to illustrate my
point, to
demonstrate what can be done and how it can be done.
Let us assume that we want to build a four-lane highway from
Chandigarh to
Delhi (approximately 200 kilometers), and we want to do it in 200
days.
Assume the cost is Rupees one crore per kilometer or a total cost
of 200
crores of rupees. Where will the money come from?
Answer: Capital now-a-days is not only global but is also highly
mobile, this
global capital moves in the direction of the highest returns, that
is it goes
where it can get the highest returns for its money, regardless of
where in
the world this earning-site might be.
14. Suppose that in the market place, the rate of return on an
investment
that is rather safe is 8%, and we issue bonds that pay a rate of
interest of
10% (or higher if need be), and the bonds are backed and
guaranteed by the
full faith and power of the State Of Panjab, and are retired in
four to five
years (that is the bonds are cashed out in four to five years),
then
everybody in the world would be jumping out of his skin, at the
chance of
buying the bonds of Chandigarh-Delhi Expressway. The Standard And
Poor's
Organization will rate these bonds as AAAA or better. The
investors would
include not only the Indians of India, but also the NRIs, as well
as the
Europeans and the Americans. People will take their moneys out of
their
Swiss-Bank Accounts and buy the bonds of Chandigarh-Delhi
Expressway, because
it is down to earth judicious and just plain commonsense, because
Swiss Bank
Accounts don't pay much interest, it is much more profitable to
invest in
Chandigarh-Delhi Express-Way, and the money is safe, guaranteed by
the full
faith and power of the State Of Panjab.
The construction of Chandigarh-Delhi Expressway and all matters
relating to
it, shall be under the control and supervision of a Highway
Commissioner, who
is guided by a board of 12 Directors, who are elected by the
people. The
actual construction shall be done by a contractor (Private
Enterprise).The
collection and payment of all moneys shall be computerised and
capable of
being audited at all times and supervised by the Board of
Directors (12
Directors). We know it for a fact that human beings differ enough
from one
individual to the next, that it is nearly impossible for twelve
people to get
in cahoot, it is nearly impossible to corrupt twelve individuals,
the laws of
mathematics do not allow this, the laws of mathematics tell us
that the
chance of this happening is less than one percent.
15. This Express-Way shall be a toll-paying highway, enough toll
shall be
collected to pay not only the interest on the bonds but also to
retire the
bonds in four to five years. The owners of vehicles who pay tolls,
shall make
much more money in saved time (reaching Delhi in 2 1/2 hours vice
7 or 8
hours previous), through great increase in business and quanity
and quality
of goods delivered, and other advantages, that they shall be more
than glad
to pay the toll ( say rupees 30, 40, 50, or 60 rupees each way),
they are
sick of the present beat-up roads of India, which play havoc not
only with
their time-schedules, not only destroys their vehicles and goods,
but also
lowers the morale of their workers, they tell me that they would
do anything
to get out of the present state of hopelessness. The Express-Way
shall be
properly maintained. Two, three, four, five, six or more thousand
vehicles
shall be moving every hour of each day on this Express-Way, and
the amount of
toll collected shall be more than enough to take care of all
expenses.
Eventually toll shall be reduced and finally nearly-eliminated.
This is a
win-win situation for everybody in the High-Way system. We can
build one
kilometer of World-Class Highway each day, if we cannot build one
kilometer
each day, then either we don't know how to do it or our equipment
is shoddy.
Suffice it to say, that we are not going to allow either of those
socialist
incompetencies.
Many Auxiliary Industries shall spring up quickly next to this
express-way.
Hotels, Motels, Food and Gas Places, and High-Tech Industries
shall locate
themselves rapidly next to this express-way, because of
accessibility to
people, materials, and other productive resources of the land. The
Private
Enterprises know how exactly to pull all of this off.
16. There are many many other Force-Multipliers for capital, lots
and lots of
capital can be quickly raised for pruductive and wealth-producing
activities
of the country (a full discussion of these is beyond the scope of
this
message). Suffice it to say that there is no shortage of capital.
Any excuse
of shortage of capital, is a bunch of bunk (hog-wash).
17. Let me ask you a simple question, on a Related Concept.
Suppose you want
to eliminate corruption from the judicial system of India, how
would you go
about doing it?
(Incidently, most Indians have concluded that there is no way to
reduce or
eliminate corruption amongst officials, ministers, and judges ).
Are they
right? No, they are not, they really have not thought through the
problem.
It is true (as is strongly held by most Indians) that officials,
ministers,
and judges are liable to be tempted by bribery. But that does not
mean that
there is no way to stop it. There certainly is a way.
What is the Way?:
Replace the present judicial system with the Jury-System and you
would have
nearly eliminated corruption from the Judicial System of India.
Why does the
Jury-System destroy corruption from the judicial system?
To understand this, we need to look at our present "Judge
System." When we do
that, we notice that the officers, ministers, and the criminals
succeed in
establishing a nexus (coupling, cahoot) with the judges, and get a
judicial
outcome in their favor.
In the "Jury System" such a nexus is nearly impossible,
it cannot be
successfully established, because the laws of mathematics prevent
it. The
Jury System is backed by the laws of mathematics. It is virtually
impossible
to get 12 Jurors (12 different and individual Jurors) in cahoot,
to commit
corruption. The laws of mathematics do not allow it. Therefore,
you can use
the Jury System with confidence. It is such a simple concept, it
beats the
deuce out of me to observe, that people have so much difficulty
comprehending
it.
Says Thomas Jefferson:
The opinion of twelve jury-men gives a better hope of right, than
cross and
pile does.
From all material proof and substantiation, that has come within
the range of
my observation, I have to deduce that Tommy Jefferson was
definitely a smart
man.
18. Back to the great potential of India: India has so many
bounties of
nature (especially of agriculture, energy, and energy-producing
materials),
that when the Private Enterprise gets going, there will be so much
energy
being produced in India, that energy will be extremely-cheap.
There will be
more than enough energy to have Air-Conditioning in every single
Indian
House. The companies will be going after the customers, begging
them to buy
energy from them, there will be no need for any customer to bribe
any body to
get an energy connection.
At the risk of repetition, Socialism is conducting the biggest
cash-robbery
in India, and every Indian is becoming poorer as a result. In
other words,
Socialism is the biggest thief in India. Jimmy the Gentle Hindu is
paying the
board and lodging of this Socialist-Thief. What the Hindu needs to
do is to
put this thief where he belongs, that is behind bars.
Corruption and Bribery are the consequences of shortages, a
natural result of
socialist politics. When we eliminate socialits politics, we not
only
eliminate shortages, we also eliminate bribery and corruption as
well.
19. Is there a way to turbo-charge, that is to accelerate the
efficiency of
the Private Enterprise in India?
Yes, there certainly is. The fastest way is through the mechanism
of MNCs
(Multi-National Corporations) in our vital industries. People tell
me that
MNCs are Not good for India, because all the MNCs want to do, is
to come to
India to make money in India, they are Not interested in helping
India.
Comment: Please don't make me laugh, because this again is a
Fat-Head
assessment. Those who advance this argument don't know what the
hell they are
talking about. This is the reason "Why."
Reason: Why would anybody want to come to India if not for making
money? Is
there anything wrong with wanting to make money? But what
difference does it
make if the MNCs make money, as long as we Indians also make
money, and more
of it than the MNCs. Is it not better that both of us make money,
rather than
neither one of us?
But there is a bigger reason for bringing in the MNCs into India.
MNCs are
the FASTEST way to bring in High-Technology into India, to enable
India to
start building and exporting World-Class goods, to all across the
world. The
MNC route is 100 times faster than trying to invent and build
technology by
ourselves in India. We need to think smart, and glance across the
world to
see where the world is going. The world is moving ahead at
break-neck speed.
If we don't move ahead fast, then the world would move ahead of
us, and leave
us behind.
The Fat-Heads of Socialism, by way of Protective Fiscal Policies,
and by
keeping the MNCs out of India, for 50 plus years, have kept India
as a
Technologically Backward country. In the same 50 years, countries
like Japan,
South Korea, Taiwan, and Singapore, have moved light years ahead
of us Indians
, by way of MNC Route. The leaders of these Far-Eastern countries
were great
economists and practical thinkers. The economic leadership of
India was
rotten, the leaders of India were Fat-Headed Socialists, and they
have
brought India to the level of ruin that we presently see in India,
Socialism
has been a thorn in the Hindu's Flesh.
Socialism has been the biggest Cash-Robber in the recent history
of India,
its crimes beat the crimes of Dodge City. They have no
understanding of
economics, they cannot tell the difference between a
cigarette-burn in sofa
and a bullet-hole. Let us Hindus rely on our own courage, counsel,
and
confidence in our own destiny.
Let us all Hindus say: Good-Bye to Socialism
And
: Welcome Aboard to Hindu-Capitalism.
20. Can all this be done? Absolutely yes. Why?
Because the Hindu of India has a great mind for business. All that
the Hindu
wants is an opportunity to make money, he wants to see that there
is
transparency in the Indian System, that there is fairness in the
Indian
System, that there is no limit to how much money he can make with
his thrift,
creativity, and effort. Once he is convinced of the existences of
these
components in the Indian System, then there is no stopping of the
creative
Hindu Mind. The Hindu can build up the capital structure of India
to High
Heavens, with benefits that all of us Hindus can enjoy and share.
It is the provervial "Win Win Situation."
21. Once again, can India be the Bird Of Gold again? Answer is
"Absolutely
Yes."
I do not need to list all the tricks of raising money (there are
so many many
of them) or the methods of building the great industrial and
high-tech
enterprises and empires in India. The Great Hindu Minds are
already masters
of these tricks, they can tease them out pretty well.
