The First Hijacking In India: 52 Years Ago
Gopal Godse

Foreword and Afterword provided by A. Ghosh

(Foreword: The following article has been received from Gopal Godse of Pune, India. Sri Gopal Godse is the brother of Nathuram Godse who was sentenced to death for assassinating Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. Gopal Godse was an accused in the Gandhi Murder Case and was found guilty of conspiracy. He was sentenced to transportation for life and was released in October, 1964. He was re-arrested a month later under the Defense of India Act and kept in prison for more than a year. He was finally released at the end of 1965.

Gopal Godse, after his release, published the statement of Nathuram Godse, which had been kept under an illegal ban by the GoI since. It is only now that the truth about the Nathuram Godse's side of the story is trickling out. Our nation is now fully aware of the Nehru-Gandhi government's propensity to cover up facts and deny people the truth. The real truth about Gandhi murder too had been covered up by the Nehru-Gandhis at the time. It is only now that our people are facing the real truth and no one knows what the final result of such belated revelation is going to be)

The Indian Airlines plane had been hijacked by Pakistani terrorists on Dec. 24, 1999 while on a trip from Kathmandu, Nepal to Delhi, India. The Islamic terrorists had forced the plane to fly to Kandahar, Afghanistan, instead. There were some 160 passengers from many other countries as well, in the plane.

This hijacking incident took me to an event that had taken place fifty-two years ago. This is the story of that first hijacking which took place right after India's independence.

Our country was just partitioned and freedom was declared for both India and Pakistan on August 15, 1947. Within ten weeks thereafter Pakistan invaded India by way of Kashmir. India went for the defense of Kashmir because Kashmir had acceded to India and was thus an integral part of India.

Out of the cash balance left by Britain at the time of her departure from the subcontinent, fifty-five crores of rupees was the share of Pakistan. Pakistan wanted the entire amount to be delivered to her immediately as she was in need of the money in order to purchase arms and ammunitions for her attack on India to go on undeterred. However, it must be mentioned here that at the time of partition no time frame had been agreed upon for the disbursement of this huge sum of money. India wanted Pakistan first to withdraw her troops from Kashmir to prepare the ground for the monetary transaction.

It must be recalled that prior to partition of the country into India and Pakistan, Gandhi had declared openly before the entire nation: "If the Congress wants to accept partition of India, it can do so only over my dead body." Gandhi had thus already eaten his own words and it became clear to many that Gandhi was bent upon fooling the people of India, primarily Hindus and Sikhs. The partition resulted in widespread massacre of unarmed Hindus in Pakistani areas of the partitioned country. Amazingly, Gandhi never uttered a single word in sympathy for the Hindu/Sikh dead; there was no apology from his side at all. On the other hand, Gandhi continued to express his love for Pakistanis and their acts of rape, slaughter and arson went unmentioned.

In the meantime, India refused to accede to Pakistan's demand and did not release the cash balance. This was made clear to Pakistan by India on January 12, 1948.

Gandhi talked with the Indian ministers to pursuade them to release the amount forthwith. However, such requests went unheeded; Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, also a Gujarati like Gandhi, was adamant and the money was not released.

Gandhi was enraged. Unbeknown to many, Gandhi was a very proud and boastful man under the garb of the 'naked fakir', a name once given to him by Winston Churchill. This resulted in Gandhi's declaration of an indefinite fast from the very next day. The man's dictatorial propensities were becoming evident to the world at large. Obviously, the announcement was intended to draw sympathy from the common people.

The message of his intended fast was: "Feed my baby with the fifty-five crores of rupees so that it can buy arms against India or else I will kill myself". Gandhi's threat was in fact like a gun pointed at India and its government. THAT WAS THE FIRST HIJACKING AGAINST INDIA ON BEHALF OF PAKISTAN, COMMITTED BY NO LESS A PERSON THAN GANDHI HIMSELF.

There are people who might say that Gandhi's measure was hijacking of a non-violent nature. But that does not make sense. Killing oneself is also a violent act! One thus fails to understand how Gandhi's threat failed to be violent. It was miles away from Gandhi's theory of "change of heart"!

The determination of the Indian government collapsed in three days. Some spineless leaders started pleading that the life of Gandhi was more valuable than the fifty-five crores of rupees. The exact wording of GoI's note was:

"The GoI has, however, shared the world-wide anxiety over the fast undertaken by Gandhiji, the father of the nation. In common with him they anxiously searched for ways and means to remove ill-will, prejudice and suspicion, which have poisoned the relations of India and Pakistan.

"Impelled by the earnest desire to help in every way open to them in the object, which Gandhiji has at heart, the government have sought for some tangible and striking contribution to the movement for ending the physical suffering of the nation's mind from the present distemper, bitterness and suspicion to constructive and creative efforts. The government, as far as possible, without detriment to the national good, in every case, will avoid the path which leads to friction between India and Pakistan.

"The government have decided to implement immediately the financial agreement with Pakistan in regard to the cash balances."

The surrender note shows as if India was responsible for the bitterness as much as Pakistan was.

In the hijacking of the Air India plane, there was "give and take" but in the hijacking of 1948 there was no promise from Gandhi that Pakistan would withdraw her troops from Kashmir after having received the fifty-five crores of rupees from India.

In the incident of the hijacking of the Air India plane, the opposition parties had been consulted and they had given a free hand to the GoI.

On the other hand, no consultation with the opposition parties took place BEFORE the surrender of India to the demand of Gandhi. Thus technically, the opposition parties were NOT at all responsible for India's forced capitulation before Gandhi at the time the fifty-five crores of rupees were handed over by the GoI.

No doubt, such false secularism practiced by Gandhi encouraged Islamic fundamentalism that had been more or less dormant all these years. Things in India have gone haywire since. Since then, there were demands made by some opposition leaders that India should pay Pakistan two thousand crores of rupees for having detonated a nuclear bomb at Pokharan in Rajasthan. Some even asked for protection for minority Mohammedans on religious basis. Some even asked for reconstruction of the demolished Babri mosque in Ayodhya and thereby implied the inherent rights of Mohammedans to destroy each and every Hindu, Sikh temple in India, as used to be done during the Mohammedan period in those gory days of Islam. Financing the Hajj pilgrimage (an unjustifiable practice) was encouraged to facilitate meetings between the Indian hajis and foreign terrorists on the soil of Arabia.

The net result of the subsequent events was a high-power stimulation of Islamic fundamentalism inside India. This was displayed by the fearless attitude of the hijackers of the Indian plane at Kandahar as well as Mumbai. The Indian Mohammedans now provide a rich breeding ground for traitors inside India, boosted by the ISI agents (and funds), most of whom go unpunished in India even when they are caught redhanded.

Threats of Jehad is not a new feature in India for the Hindus. The creation of Pakistan in itself is an act of Jehad of great magnitude. Religion and politics are one in Islam. Islam is a perpetual mission for spreading Arab culture and supremacy all over the world. The non-Arab Mohammedans only serve as slaves to this Arab cause. (Please read up on Anwar Shaikh, on this subject). They lose all their patriotism and love for their countrymen as soon as Indian Mohammedans are faced with Islam of Arabia. And therefore a Mohammedan in India can only be judged as an enemy and a potential agent for Islam even when that Islam happens to stem from an alien Islamic country.

Coming back to the hijacking of 1948, Nathuram Godse had tried to shoot Gandhi on January 20, 1948, as well. But that attempt did not succeed and the final success in silencing Gandhi came in the next attempt, on Jan. 30 of the same year.

Seven of us were present at the Birla House at the time. Nathuram Godse, Narayan Apte, Vishnu Karkare, Madanlal Pahwa, Digambar Bagde, Shankar Kishaliya and myself, Gopal Godse, were there.

Nathuram Godse and Narayan Apte were hanged in Ambala Central Jail on Nov. 11, 1949. Vishnu Karkare, Madanlal Pahwa and Gopal Godse were awarded the life sentence.

Nathuram submitted the details of the complete episode of this hijacking adventure along with documents but the Nehru government suppressed it for fear of enlightening the Indian public. Copies of the relevant pages from the original court documents are now available to all as there is no ban any more against publication of the truth.

God's wrath eventually caught up with the hypocrite Nehru. If Nathuram was killed by hanging, Nehru was slain by God Himself. This man died of the disgraceful disease of syphilis!

(Afterword: The harm that the Nehru dynasty has inflicted on our India will soon be exposed to all and sundry. The first hijacking of India will then take on a different meaning for our countrymen. We pray to our God, that in the meantime, we will not let the Gujrals, the V.P. Singhs, the Kuldip Nayars and other well simulated traitors, do any further harm to our homeland and get away with quietly!)
